Ruth Brown is the 2019 Delhi Citizen of the Year
April 15, 2019.
The Delhi & District Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Ruth Brown is the 2019 Delhi Citizen of the Year. She will be presented with her award at the Delhi Chamber’s Gala Night on May 8, 2019 at the Delhi Hungarian Hall.
Ruth a 30-year resident of Delhi, has volunteered over the past 15 years at the Delhi Sharing Panty, a local unsubsidized food bank for the Delhi area. In addition to volunteering, for the past 8 years Ruth has managed the Sharing Pantry with many hours devoted to gathering supplies from local generous merchants, managing community cash donations and distributing food to those in need. Since assuming the Sharing Pantry leadership role the Pantry has expanded to also provide clothing and household items and the Pantry is working on providing more nutritional food to make sure recipients receive a more balanced diet. Although the operation of the Sharing Pantry requires a number of volunteers, Ruth is the catalyst that continues to make the Sharing Pantry such a successful community resource.
In addition to Ruth’s work with the Sharing Pantry her volunteer work also extends to the Delhi United Church. She sits on the Church Board and is involved with the Outreach committee. Other Church volunteer work includes the annual coat drive and assisting with the monthly Messy Church, a program for children including crafts and activities.
Ruth’s message is, “We all need to help one another. Why would we choose not to help if you can help?
On behalf of the Delhi & District Chamber of Commerce we congratulate Ruth on this much-deserved recognition. She is a true example of the community spirit that is so alive in Delhi.
Isabella Spinella is the 2019 Delhi Junior Citizen of the Year
April 15, 2019
The Delhi & District Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Isabella Spinella is the 2019 Delhi Junior Citizen of the Year. She will be presented with her award at the Delhi Chamber’s Gala Night on May 8, 2019 at the Delhi Hungarian Hall.
Isabella is a truly amazing young lady; she is the type of individual that at only 13 years old spotted a lady in a wheelchair across the parking lot at the grocery store and ran across to help her open the trunk and put her groceries inside.
Isabell volunteers with youth groups to help prepare, set up, serve and clean up for those less fortunate. She is an active volunteer with the Delhi Christmas activities, working at the breakfast with Santa, Christmas crafts and the Santa Parade. Isabella shovels snow for the seniors and visits the senior homes at Christmas to play her ukulele and sing songs with her friends and hand out gift bags to make seniors smile.
In addition to her volunteer work with seniors Isabella is also a part of the Buddy program at school helping her “little buddies” read or complete other assigned work. She is an active volunteer with wheelchair basketball and offers “date night” at her local church, where she will babysit so members can enjoy a night out without their children. This past summer Isabella had an opportunity to give back to a peace camp program offered by the HN REACH for kids that are being bullied. She had attended the camp herself in the past but went back this past summer as a volunteer to help at the camp.
Isabell is a truly remarkable 13-year-old.
On behalf of the Delhi & District Chamber of Commerce we congratulate Isabella on this much-deserved recognition. She is true example of the positive attitude of the youth in Delhi.
